Getting a Prescription for Contraceptive Pills from Doctors Online
Available since the 1960s, the oral contraceptive pill is the most popular form of birth control for Australian women. As the most convenient method, it’s estimated to be used by up to 80% of women at some time in their lives.
The convenience of taking the contraceptive pill isn’t always matched by the method of obtaining it. Often, this requires you to make an appointment to see your local GP. Appointments aren’t always easy to obtain, often are available some time in the future and involve a lot of wasted time spent travelling to the doctor’s surgery and then sitting in the waiting room among a number of sick people until it’s your turn to be seen.
The Alternative Way to Obtain Contraceptive Pills
Spending up to half a day getting your contraceptive pills, especially if it’s just a repeat prescription, is a total waste of your time. And it can be even longer if you live in a remote area and have to travel a long way to get to your GP.
That can be a thing of the past, with the ability to now get your contraceptive pill online. Now you need only:
- download the Instant Consult app to your smartphone (Apple or Android)
- register and request a consult
- undergo a video consultation with an Australian-qualified GP at a convenient time in the comfort of your own home
- receive your prescription, when clinically appropriate.
All our consultations are with a qualified doctor and at a time to suit you. And we can arrange for the contraceptive pills to be available for collection at your local pharmacy or can have them delivered directly to you. It’s that easy.
Prescribing Contraceptives Safely
Whilst we aim to make it as simple and quick as possible to obtain your contraceptive pills, we will only prescribe them if we determine they are appropriate. We will not put our patients’ health at risk so we always undertake a thorough consultation before prescribing contraceptives for the first time.
Taking any medication is not without risk so we’ll always minimise that risk with a full assessment. Different contraceptive options including pills can have side effects, especially when there are existing medical conditions and another medication is being taken. So we’ll establish your medical history, obtain general health details and determine any allergies and other health issues before making a decision.
Your mental health is important as well as your physical health so we’ll consider all aspects before taking any action. This may be to prescribe a particular contraceptive pill or to recommend an alternative method of contraception that may be more suitable. In some cases, we may be unable to prescribe and will recommend a visit to your regular GP if this is the more appropriate course of action.
We always want to establish and maintain a lasting relationship with our patients so we’ll be happy to monitor your progress through future consultations and to recommend a change of pill if necessary. Your safety is our prime concern and this applies to any type of contraceptive.
