Medical Certificate For Headaches via our app
At Instant Consult, we provide the ultimate after hours clinic where you can connect with a medical professional from anywhere in Australia.
Can I Get a Medical Certificate for Headache?
Yes, you can get a medical certificate for a headache if it is severe enough to affect your ability to work or study. With Instant Consult’s telehealth services, you can get a medical certificate right from the comfort and convenience of your own home.
Traditionally, getting a medical certificate, whether for a headache or any other illness, can be a hassle. You drive to the clinic and sit in the waiting room (sometimes for hours) before you can talk to a GP and get your medical certificate. If your head hurts so bad, going through all these can be a nightmare. That’s why most would rather go to work than queue up for a medical certificate.
At Instant Consult, we connect you with Australian-registered doctors so you can get the medical services you need right from your own home. Simply hop on a video consultation with one of our AHPRA-registered doctors and discuss your symptoms. If the doctors deems it clinically appropriate, you will receive your medical certificate right after. It’s that fast and easy.
Whether you’re experiencing a severe headache or other common conditions, like period pain, back pain, and even common colds, Instant Consult provides a fast and easy solution to support your healthcare needs.

Why Get a Medical Certificate Online?
If you’re wondering whether online medical certificates are valid, the answer is a definite yes. As long as they are provided by fully licensed doctors like at Instant Consult, medical certificates obtained through telehealth consultations are valid and accepted across Australia.
But aside from their validity, there are heaps of reasons why you should get a medical certificate online rather than visiting a doctor in person. This includes:
- Convenience: You can consult with a doctor from the comfort of your home. No need to travel or sit in waiting rooms.
- Time-Saving: Online consultations are often quicker than in-person visits. This saves you time, especially if you’re feeling unwell.
- Accessibility: Telehealth services are accessible to everyone with an internet connection. This is especially useful for those in remote areas.
- Privacy: Receiving medical advice online maintains your privacy and comfort.
- Flexibility: Instant Consult doctors are available from 6 AM to midnight AEST, allowing you to get a medical certificate any time you need one.

Types of Medical Certificates You Can Get Online
Like medical practitioners who provide in-person consultations, our Australian-registered doctors can provide various types of medical certificates, including:
Single-Day Medical Certificates
If you need a day off due to a sudden illness like a severe headache or sore throat, a single-day medical certificate is ideal. This type certifies that you were unfit for work or study for one day. It’s quick to obtain following a brief telehealth consultation.
Multiple-Day Medical Certificates
For conditions that require more than a day of recovery, such as gastroenteritis or severe flu symptoms, you can request a multiple-day medical certificate. However, these certificates can only cover up to three consecutive days of personal leave, from the date of your consultation.
Carer’s Certificate
If you need to care for an ill family member, you can obtain a carer’s certificate. This certificate proves that your presence is necessary for the care of a loved one, allowing you to take carer’s leave from work or school.
Manage Headaches With Just a Few Clicks
Besides medical certificates, our online doctors offer a range of services to help with headaches from home. They can diagnose your headache, prescribe medication, and give tips for relief. They can also arrange for pathology and radiology tests or refer you to a specialist if needed.
Keep in mind that if your headache comes with chest pain, shortness of breath, or other urgent symptoms, seek immediate medical help. Otherwise, Instant Consult makes it easy to get care for your headaches anytime, anywhere.
Don’t let headaches disrupt your life. Book a consultation now and manage your headache without stepping out your door.

FAQs
Can doctors backdate medical certificates?
The short answer is no. The Australian Medical Association prohibits medical professionals from backdating medical certificates, stating that doctor’s certificates should be dated on the day they were issued.
However, if deemed appropriate, our doctors can include a note in your medical certificate that your symptoms started before your consultation. For instance, if your headache started yesterday and continued until today, your medical certificate can state such. Keep in mind that this is only applicable if the doctor can ascertain that your symptoms really did start before the consultation.
Please refer to our guide on backdated medical certificates for more information.
How many sick days can you take without a doctor’s certificate in Australia?
According to Fair Work Australia, employers can request a medical certificate if they have reasonable grounds, regardless of the duration of the absence. That’s why the number of sick days you can take without a doctor’s certificate depends on your employer’s workplace policy.
In most cases, you can take one or two days off without needing a medical certificate. Some workplaces may allow more days, while others might require a sick leave certificate for even one day off. Check your specific workplace agreement or employee handbook to ensure compliance and avoid any issues.
